From Charles on Facebook:
Several people have contacted me about the TexasCHLforum.com being down. There was a catastrophic failure during a software upgrade. I tried to upload a backup and it appears the backup file was corrupted. The database was not impacted because the upgrade failure occurred before it got to the database update.

Fixing this problem has been difficult to say the least. My NRA schedule has made it even more difficult. I have hired someone to try to get the Forum back online ASAP. Hopefully it will only be a few more days. I thought I was going to be able to do it myself this weekend, but I ran into another problem.

Sorry for the long downtime and thanks for your interest folks.

Chas.
That's good news! There are over a million posts on that forum. Lots and lots of history.

Huh?

I don't think the 3006 forum was a stopgap- I think (Russell- correct me if I'm wrong) that it is a stand alone forum and only the timing may have been impacted by the chlforum crash.

Thanks for the update, Russell!

Yes, I had been considering for quite some time to open up our own forum here to have a better communication platform for our community. While the CHL forum going down, and staying down for a while, brought this idea to the front for me it isn't just a stopgap.

Our forum will stay! :-)

Excellent! Well, I am headed down this evening to Dallas Market Hall (where I expect we have all been at one time or another for a gun show) to receive my first dose of the Chinese Kung Flu virus vaccine. Will be interesting to see if UTSW has put up their 30.06 signs there - and if they have, is it legal? Report to follow, stay tuned.

Great news to hear that the forum will be restored AND that this one will remain. Two is one and one is none...

Well said. I am very happy to hear that the TexasCHLForum is still alive - and variety is the spice of life, so I’m glad to see this one remain.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

A few weeks ago I would have told you it was wasted effort to install/maintain a forum in this day and age, (sorry I've been watching a lot of cop watch videos during lock down) because facebook. But considering facistbook's recent direction php forums may be making a comeback. Having a 2A connected domain name hosted by Google is a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for them!

I am very glad to hear that you will keep this one up. I like it and think it is off to a great start and will go far.

Now, my wife on the other hand will not like this. She thinks I spend too much time on the computer as it is and I had just added a model railroading forum to my daily list. Having two gun forums to check and I see some "discussion" in my future that forum related but off-line.
