It's football season!
It always has been, except the players were the only ones not making money. And if they got injured, they wound up with nothing except some college credits.
I don't have a problem with NIL, but the transfer portal is screwing things up. I think that if a player accepts a scholarship, it should come with an obligation to stay with that school through at least the full academic year. Entering the portal because your school didn't get a good bowl game is a big FU to the team and fellow players.
I will occasionally watch an NFL game. NBA, never. College sports are where it's at.

I paid good money to send both of my daughters to TCU from 2000 to 2010. One result is I became a TCU football fan and held season tickets for those 10 years. I watched many very good football games during that time. I loved going to Amon Carter stadium with the wife and kids, and tailgating in one of the wide open lots on the east side of University Drive. I was more than happy to forget about pro football during that time, and I've never really gone back.
But times, they are a changing! I gave up our season tickets when TCU made their triumphant landing in the Big 12. Parking was a huge hassle, ticket prices went way up, we lost our good seats when they renovated the stadium, and my daughters started having babies. Babies and football games didn't mix well for us. I was still a fan and enjoyed having watch parties here at home or at one of the kids' homes.
Now with NIL and transfer portal, I wonder if I can stay interested. There was something magical about college football when the players were students, and playing for love of the game and an opportunity to make it in the pros. My younger daughter lived in the same apartment complex as Andy Dalton and rode on the same bus to campus with him. I understand the rationale for NIL and transfer portal, but I have to wonder if it's going to suck the magic out of the game. I hope it doesn't. I'll watch TCU v. Stanford tonight and hope it's fun.
Good luck UT and OU fans in the SEC!

I've never attended a college game at a level higher than my alma mater, Arkansas Tech. Or as we called it, "Redneck Tech".
I love baseball, but I've only been to one MLB game over 20 years ago (ATL @ HOU). I was attending a convention and we had group tickets.
