How y'all making it during Operation Brass Monkey, and where?

My sister in Arkansas had her propane topped off, and tested her furnace for the first time in 7 years. Her overnight low Monday is forecast as below zero.

She's quite indignant about that. She said, "This is supposed to be YOUR weather!"

Well, yes... I now live in northern New Hampshire by choice, and we've had a mild winter so far. I don't think we've been colder than -11 this year. Our first 2-3 years, -29 in late January through mid February was common. It's about 15F right now, and I didn't even light a fire. The furnace is all we need for these mild temps. :D

Plumbers (or anyone who can fix frozen pipes) are going to be in big demand from El Paso to Knoxville.

Power loss here in my area of houston. We have two propane tanks for the grill (if I feel like grilling in 12 degree weather!) and a few UPS batteries running small essentials. Doing ok so far!

This is what "green" energy gets us. Time to start building more nuclear power plants:

climate change nuts earlier this year claimed victory from greenhouse gasses as the world paused for a year for covid. We could actually see the mountains in india, etc. all because co2 levels fell and smog all but vanished in the worst areas.

now they scream we are OVER COOLING from lack of CO2 in the atmosphere which helps trap warm air...

yes i was kidding but it did give me thought this morning as i was knee deep in a snow bank that extended about 6 feet from the south side of the house and had buried my heat pumps.
so i bravely bundled up like the kid the the christmas story and swept and shoveled snow out from around the units so they could defrost and warm the freaking house up

I have power and water. Checking neighborhood apps, so many around me don't have either, and repairs are estimated for tomorrow.
I need a countdown timer until the next election.

Still the signature-less one. 🤣

I witnessed a truck with a rope over the tailgate, tied to a flat bottom boat, pulling their kids down the snow covered road.
I honestly don't know if this is genious and I'm jealous, or if I was appalled at the stupidity of some people.
Little help here. Cuz that kinda sounds fun??

Had to go to work last night due to a monitoring system failure. En route I saw a similar scenario, pickup pulling a kid on some type of plastic sled. On the way home this morning, I saw the same truck nose down in a culvert about 100 yards from where they were last night. There was no major damage, and I hope no one was injured. Stupidity knows no bounds.

Power went out from 3-9AM, then again at 11AM. It just came back on a few minutes ago. Focusing on heating up the place and letting the freezer cool down. I'm too lazy to take the food outside. Hopefully it won't go out again.
