I have thought about a weapon to carry in a 30.06 location--preferably one that I could deploy with one hand--and what came to mind was a switchblade knife. I did a fairly limited search on this and found that it is apparently legal to carry a switchblade in Texas as of a 2013 law and 2016 clarification. There may be some limitations if the blade is 5.5 inches or longer, and (no surprise) no carry in government buildings, schools, etc. 30.06 signs are strictly handguns.

It seems unlikely that I'm the first person to think of this, so is anyone here a swtichblade carrier? If so, can you share your experience and maybe brands ans stores to recommend?

Thanks.
Bill

The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States."

I have thought about getting one, probably an OTF model. They have improved lockup and strength, in the past few years. Most top of the line knife companies are offering automatic knives, probably due, in no small part to the change in Texas knife laws.
I currently carry assisted open knives, which are easy to operate one handed, and I really don’t “need” a new knife, but I have been shopping.

I have no doubt that AndyC will post photos, and links to some to push me into spending my money on one!!

I've carried an automatic knife every day since shortly after they were legalized. I've had no problems at all.

I carry this Boker Kalashnikov: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Boker-Kalashnikov-74--103

It's affordable, has tough all-metal construction, and holds a good edge. It's not a "show it off to your friends" knife, but that's not why I carry it.

They come in several different colors and blade shapes: https://www.bladehq.com/cat--Boker-Kalashnikov--3519

I have a Gerber Auto 06 Tanto with a partially serrated blade that I like. But that was just evil showing me that Benchmade site

When I was a kid back in the mid 70's, I had one that looked something like this one. A friend and his family had gone to Mexico and he got it for me there. A Plano police officer took it from me. I think they were illegal back then. In those days if you did dumb things as a kid they would not usually arrest you. They would just correct your behavior for you. LOL To this day I always envision this style when anyone says switch blade. It was pretty much junk.

Microtech makes some nice ones as well. https://microtechknives.com/

However, if you are looking for a good starter OTF that won't break the budget, the Lightning series have been ones I use out working. They aren't as light or pretty, but they get the job done, and at the price, if I ruin one, I can just get another:

Occasionally I carry my Microtech Hawk auto, sometimes combat troodon. They are fun and very fast. Still like my spyderco para 2, benchmade 940 and two dozen other flippers though.
