Here's one thing I worry about when it comes to the demise of NRA: the NRA Foundation. I don't know how thoroughly they're intertwined with NRA Inc., and I have not seen any mention of the Foundation in the reports about the legal and financial troubles.

My wife and I always looked forward to the annual Friends of the NRA banquet at the Four States Fairground in Texarkana. It was a fun night out with friends, and an enjoyable way to blow a couple hundred bucks.

If we won a raffle item (I did, twice: a Winchester 1300 Defender that stands next to my bed to this day, and a Mauser M2 .45 ACP pistol in a presentation box (sold it; I don't need commemorative guns), along with a few non-gun items like coolers or bag chairs), I was happy. If we didn't win anything, we knew that a chunk of money went towards youth shooting sports.

I suspect those events had a lot of overhead that went into the pockets of the organizers. That would certainly fit the pattern of everything else NRA-related.

Not related to the lawsuit, but I feel it's relevant to the conversation.

Brownell's held a 2nd Amendment event on 2/22/23.

As part of the celebration they will be donating $22,222 to the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America, and the Iowa Firearms Coalition. Interestingly, a large gun rights organization for whom the CEO of Brownells once served as President is not on that list. Just saying.

“As a competent and careful attorney, himself, Charles has been a steady helmsman during the legal battles in which we have been enmeshed during his term. These battles should wind down over the course of the next year and he should be there to serve our interests during this crucial period. He deserves our thanks not just for what he’s accomplished thus far but for his willingness to allow us to ask him to carry on for another year.”

The best part of that article might be the comments! My favorite was this one:
"The more I see, the more I think that the Gambino family was just a small business trying to make a buck. WLP makes them look like amateurs."

“His willingness to allow us to ask him”….what a stupid thing to even say. You couldn’t pay Cotton enough to give up his position when’s he has gotten so close to ascending to the throne.

NRA is surviving only by borrowing on its line of credit, which is secured by a mortgage on HQ, and sometime soon, that will be maxed out and the question will become “how do we make payroll?”

Either that, or some unpaid vendors will push for involuntary NRA bankruptcy. The court will liquidate its assets, starting with the Whittington Center, and use those to pay its debts.

The email doesn't say where they plan to move, just... somewhere else.

NRA employees received an email today:

NY Expert Witness Report
https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2023/ ... ss-report/
It’s by Jeffrey Tenenbaum, an attorney in nonprofit law. He’s an expert witness hired by NY, so don’t expect him to impartial, but it gives us an idea of what NY will be arguing at trial. It gets lively on p. 29. It starts off with David McKenzie, owner of MMP and other NRA vendors.
“In light of the numerous breaches of their fiduciary duties and the applicable standard of care as set forth above, in my judgment, Wayne LaPierre and John Frazer should be dismissed. The Board and current NRA officers seem intent on avoiding any change that would affect LaPierre’s leadership. But they have demonstrated an inability to take appropriate action to address governance and finance issues. In the nonprofit world, this is often referred to as “founder’s syndrome,” in which the identity and interests of the founder/chief executive and of the organization are conflated.
There’s an expert witness correcting identifying the “Wayne worship” that’s been going on in the NRA for a long time.

NRA: Meet The New Cover, Up Same As The Old Cover Up

https://www.ammoland.com/2023/03/nra-me ... -cover-up/

"Just as Wayne LaPierre, at 73 years old, could not risk retiring and allowing anyone else to have full access to the Association’s books and records, Charles Cotton can’t risk leaving the damage control and cover-up of the failures of the Audit Committee to anyone else either. Even though Cotton has been President for the past two years, he has retained his seat as Chairman of the Audit Committee."
