NRA annual meeting 2024 is going to be in Dallas, if the organization still exists.

NRAAM 2023's enthusiastic attendance shows that many people are whistling past the graveyard, denying reality.

The business of the NRA is secondary to the celebrity-hyped trade show.

NY Lawsuit: Court Ruling
https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2023/ ... rt-ruling/
Here is today’s main ruling. The court strikes 13 of NRAs affirmative defenses, plus several by the individual defendants. In separate rulings, the court denied Josh Powell and Woody Phillips’ motions to dismiss.

Looking at NRA’s Answer, the defenses that the court struck included: All claims relating to the First Amendment and the NY Attorney General’s bias, selective enforcement of the law, and an attack on appointment of a financial monitor.

The ruling ends with, “ORDERED that, as soon as reasonably possible, the parties submit a joint letter proposing a trial plan and schedule so that the Court can reserve the necessary dates.”
Brewer Expands Grip On NRA
https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2023/ ... ip-on-nra/
Second Amendment Foundation recently won a lawsuit over wrist-brace handgun stocks — at which point NRA moved to join the lawsuit. It was, of course, pointless at that late stage, except to be able to say “we won, too.”

What stood out was that the pleadings were filed by the Brewer Law Firm. NRA could have hired any of a dozen attorneys with a long 2A track record, and who don’t charge $1,400 per hour. The Brewer Firm’s only 2A experience was a loss.

Brewer is doing well with its NRA funding. It just announced its starting salary for new attorneys will be $250,000. That article is behind a paywall, but here’s one from two years ago saying Brewer’s starting pay was $205,000. A quarter-mill is not bad pay for a 20-something fresh out of law school.
Rocky Marshall’s Prediction Of NRA’s Financial Condition
https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2023/ ... condition/
The following opinion presents an updated financial analysis of the National Rifle Association (NRA) by examining the correlation between US gun sales and NRA revenues. Based on the analysis, revenue projections are made, highlighting the potential catastrophe the NRA has created.
More On NRA’s Financial Condition

Reader Jaquebauer cited this article in a comment, and it deserves a separate post. The analysis is that NRA has dealt with its steep fall in revenue and skyrocketing legal costs by cutting steeply back on the services it provides members and the public. Over a five-year period, NRA’s program spending fell from $176 to $75 million. Education and Training went from $8 to $3 million, Field Services from $12 to $2 million, etc. Money has to be diverted from core purposes to attorneys’ fees.

The details just keep coming out.

The invoices included details indicating the hair and makeup services were for Susan LaPierre, including single invoices for $10,275 and $8,300.” Those two hairdos and makeups cost the equivalent of 411 annual members’ dues.

Gayle Stanford, who served as LaPierre’s “travel agent,” to book those leased executive jet flights (which you can do online). For 26 years she worked without a written contract, billing NRA for an average $534,000 per year. Not bad for perhaps once a week accessing a website.

“Robert Kyle Weaver (“Mr. Weaver”) served in the position of Executive Director of General Operations for ten years until October 2016 when he was terminated, and I understand, escorted from NRA property. Soon after, on November 5, 2016, the NRA entered into agreement with Mr. Weaver (“Weaver Agreement”) whereby the NRA would pay Mr. Weaver a total of $1,830,000 over a period of two years for undefined “consulting services.”” Sounds like hush money for a man who knew too much.

NRA's Impressive Record of Defeat

The sad truth is that NRA executives and their cronies have been blatantly pocketing tens of millions of dollars from the NRA for years. Meanwhile, the NRA Board of Directors, who hold a fiduciary responsibility to the members of the Association, have willfully looked away, abdicating their responsibilities, instead standing resolutely behind Wayne LaPierre.

NRA is only staying alive through the donations/dues of those whose mantra is "my NRA, right or wrong." I don't understand the people who continue to throw money at the NRA to be passed along to Brewer (and I suspect, whoever Brewer is giving cuts of those funds).

Brewer Law Firm Loses Another One
https://nraindanger.wordpress.com/2023/ ... other-one/
A few weeks ago, we pointed out that the Brewer firm had filed for NRA to intervene in an SAF suit challenging the pistol wrist brace rule, and where SAF had already won a preliminary injunction. We pointed out that Brewer had zero Second Amendment experience, and so far has an almost perfect record of losing for NRA.

Add one more to that record; the court today denied the NRA motion to intervene.

“In sum, the NRA knew of the Rule more than a year before it moved to intervene, and the NRA had no basis to assume a nationwide injunction would be issued in this case. Moreover, allowing an intervention under these circumstances risks incentivizing opportunistic “injunction shopping”under the auspices of “timely” interventions to protect a threatened interest. The NRA’s Motion is not timely.”
Nothing but a waste of NRA dwindling resources. Sometimes I wonder if Brewer is hoping/working for the NRA’s demise at the hands of NY state.

"Moving to keep secret a document that’s already been found to be non-secret, and another document that anyone can Google and read? We can’t see the purpose of this set of motions, other than enhancing the billings of NRA’s attorneys."
